Marbella: doctor arrested after nurse dies in hotel room
According to 101TV, Spain's National Police arrested a 66-year-old doctor in Marbella (Málaga province) on Friday 2 October 2026, after a 56-year-old nurse died in a hotel in the town. The Andalusian outlet says the two knew each other well: both worked at the Hospital Costa del Sol in Marbella. Redacción Médica, the Spanish health-sector news site, places the events overnight into Friday morning and confirms the arrest happened the same day. That combination of a hospital doctor, a fellow nurse and a hotel room explains why the story has been climbing on Google Trends in Spain today.
Redacción Médica adds the detail most other outlets lead with: according to the police investigation, the two health workers reportedly took certain medicines together, and the woman never woke up. The site lists the substances investigators found and examined in the room as morphine chloride (an opioid painkiller) and propofol (an intravenous anaesthetic, the kind normally used in operating theatres). La Voz del Sur and Redacción Médica both report that investigators have not ruled out the possibility that these drugs were taken irregularly from the Hospital Costa del Sol.
Here's where you need to be careful with the headlines. Redacción Médica stresses that the autopsy was carried out at the Málaga Institute of Legal Medicine but had not yet established the exact cause of death when it published. The same outlet says investigators are keeping several hypotheses open and have not established that anything was done deliberately. The doctor was still in police custody while the investigation continued. None of the outlets reviewed say exactly what he is suspected of, whether that's homicide, negligence or taking drugs from the hospital.
A few gaps remain across all the coverage. No outlet names the hotel, the doctor or the nurse, or describes their relationship beyond being colleagues who were in the same room. It's also worth knowing that the reports from 101TV, Redacción Médica and La Voz del Sur largely draw on the same news agency dispatch, so they don't really confirm each other independently. Expect a clearer picture once the autopsy results and the court's next steps are made public.
