ELLE Spain's free Charlotte Tilbury gift sparks kiosk rush

ELLE Spain's free Charlotte Tilbury gift sparks kiosk rush

If you tried to buy the September issue of the Spanish edition of ELLE this week and found empty shelves, you were not alone. According to Trendencias, whose journalist Raquel Rodríguez described her own newsstand in Madrid, the magazine went on sale on 20 August 2026 at 10.99 euros with a Charlotte Tilbury 'Beauty Light Wand' highlighter included, and by 7.30 that morning several kiosks had already sold out. The appeal is simple arithmetic: Trendencias values the highlighter alone at around 44 euros in store, while Aragón Digital and El Pespunte put it closer to 40 euros, either way far above the cover price. Trendencias adds that kiosks fielded hundreds of phone calls from readers trying to reserve a copy, and that sold-out issues are now changing hands on Vinted for more than 30 euros, roughly triple the official price.

The scenes were not limited to the capital. Aragón Digital quotes a kiosk seller on Zaragoza's Plaza de España who said he had 'never received so many calls', with people queuing from 9am before opening. A Heraldo.es headline, surfaced alongside the story by Google Trends, goes further and mentions a line of about 100 people outside a Zaragoza kiosk on release day, with the quote 'Al abrir me he visto con una cola de 100 personas'; we flag, as the outlet's own page could not be fully opened, that this figure comes from the headline and the surrounding context is not confirmed. Over in Galicia, El Español (through its Quincemil edition) reports an even sharper shortage in A Coruña, where 'Ningún quiosco llegó a sacarla a la venta', meaning no kiosk even managed to put the issue out because copies were reserved or gone before opening.

Why the frenzy over a magazine that, as Trendencias notes, has been published in Spain since 1986? The pull is the gift rather than the pages: a premium beauty product bundled at a fraction of its standalone cost, in a format collectors and resellers know moves fast. One detail worth watching is what happens once the free highlighters run out. ELLE.com itself published a piece headlined 'Una nueva oportunidad para conseguir el número de ELLE (sin el iluminador) del que todo el mundo habla', pointing to a fresh chance to buy the issue, but without the gift. We could not open that page to confirm the exact terms (date, where, how many), so treat the modalities as unverified for now.

A few points remain genuinely unsettled across the coverage. The highlighter's solo price swings between roughly 40 and 44 euros depending on the outlet, and the reports do not fully agree on the product itself: some describe a single 'Beauty Light Wand', others mention up to three shades or variants, including a blush. There is also no confirmed word from the publisher on a possible reprint of either the magazine or the gift. We are laying out what each Spanish outlet says rather than resolving those gaps ourselves, and we will update if ELLE Spain announces a second run.
