Who is Santiago Posteguillo, the Valencian who made ancient Rome irresistible?
According to several aggregated biographies, to be treated with caution, Santiago Posteguillo reportedly discovered his passion for ancient Rome around age six, on a trip to Rome with his parents. Born in Valencia in 1967, he earned a European doctorate from the Universitat de València, with study stays in the UK and the US, including creative writing at Denison University (Ohio). A tenured professor at the Universitat Jaume I in Castellón, he directed the region's inter-university institute of applied modern languages. He lives in Puçol.
He says he rereads English-language classics for his courses (Wilde, Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, the Brontë sisters, Jane Austen), and follows the work of fellow historical-fiction authors (Javier Sierra, Luz Gabás, María Dueñas).
The 2018 Planeta Prize for "Yo, Julia" crowned an already considerable success: more than four million readers. In May 2026, he confirmed he was working on the fourth volume of his trilogy on Julius Caesar, with no release date announced. "La sangre de los libros" is due out on 7 October 2026.
