Who is Enric Morera, former president of the Corts Valencianes?

Enric Morera i Català was born on 3 April 1964 in Oliva. According to Valencia Plaza, he is the fourth child in his family, his father a tile ("rajola") merchant, and he spent his summers working in his grandfather's orchards.

He studied law at the University of Valencia, where he earned his degree. On a personal note, he has a passion for pilota valenciana (Valencian handball) and reads the works of Mary Beard.

His political career is closely tied to Valencian nationalism. He was secretary general of the Bloc from 2003 to 2016. In 2015, he became president of the Corts Valencianes, a post he held until 2023.

On leaving that presidency, Morera said, according to eldiario.es dated 22 May 2023: "Estoy tranquilo porque me voy con las pilas cargadas para afrontar retos" ("I'm at ease, because I'm leaving with my batteries recharged to face new challenges").

What followed was not free of internal tension. He became a territorial senator for Compromís on 28 July 2023. According to COPE, dated 27 July 2023, that election was contested within his own party.
