Who is Carlos Corberán, the Cheste local who signed with Valencia CF until 2028?

Carlos Corberán was born on 7 April 1983 in Cheste, a large village in the Valencia region, into a farming family. When Cheste's town hall paid tribute to him, he summed up his debt in one line: "En Cheste, de pequeñito, he aprendido más cosas que en cinco años de carrera" ("In Cheste, as a small child, I learned more than in five years of my career"). He cites his grandparents as his moral compass.

On education, Corberán is said to have studied Physical Activity and Sport Sciences at the University of Valencia (a single, moderately reliable source, unconfirmed).

On the pitch, his playing career was that of an amateur goalkeeper, at Valencia B, Burjassot CF and Ribarroja CF, never rising above the Tercera División. At 23, in 2006, he hung up his gloves to focus on coaching. A possible stint at VCF's youth academy is not reliably confirmed.

He joined Valencia CF in late December 2024 and has, at this point, taken charge of 67 official matches for the club. On 6 July 2026, the club made official a contract running until 2028, with the public backing of president Kiat Lim and CEO Ron Gourlay.

In March 2026, Corberán took part in the 3rd VCF Academy Coaches Convention, a training session that brought together 60 coaches from around the world.
