Where to find your community in Valencia

9 juin 2026 · La Rédaction de TDV
Online groups, expat associations, meetups and language exchanges: the best places to rebuild your circle the moment you land.
Where to find your community in Valencia

Moving abroad means rebuilding everything — friends, routines, the network that bails you out when the boiler dies on a Sunday. The good news: Valencia's international and English-speaking community is big and welcoming. Here's where to start so you're not on your own for long.

Online: the groups to start with

The fastest move is the Facebook and WhatsApp expat groups. Search for the big "Expats in Valencia" and English-speaking groups: housing tips, paperwork, English-friendly doctors, last-minute plans. Ask a question and you'll have ten answers within the hour — messy, chatty, but brilliant for your first days.

Associations and meetups

Beyond Facebook, InterNations Valencia runs regular mixers, and there's a steady stream of expat meetups, quiz nights and sport groups. Post-Brexit, plenty of Brits gather around shared admin questions too — turning red tape into a social occasion is a very Valencia thing to do.

Meeting people for real

The real magic happens at intercambios — language-exchange evenings where you swap an hour of English for an hour of Spanish over a drink. That's where first friendships form, because everyone's in the same boat. The Carmen and Ruzafa neighbourhoods are full of them.

Your admin anchor

For documents and emergencies, the British honorary consulate network and the UK Government's "Living in Spain" guidance are your reference points. Keep them handy — less fun than a meetup, very useful when you need them.

Our tip for the first step

The hard part is never finding people, it's daring to show up. Pick one event this week — an intercambio, an InterNations drink — and go even if you've no one to go with. Everyone there is in exactly your situation. That's what makes Valencia so easy to land in.

📌
The memo: start with the Facebook expat groups, try InterNations Valencia for regular mixers, hit one intercambio a week, and keep the consulate details for admin. One step gets the whole thing moving.
