Valencia Consell drops to 10 ministers, only one from 2023 left
Today's essentials
Valencia Consell drops to 10 ministers, only one from 2023 left. Three years after Carlos Mazón's Popular Party-Vox government was sworn in on 19 July 2023, only Health chief Marciano Gómez still holds the same post he started with, after President Juanfran Pérez Llorca's Consell shrank from eleven departments to ten this week, according to elDiario.es Comunitat Valenciana.
When Carlos Mazón was invested president on 13 July 2023 with 53 votes from the Popular Party and Vox, he appointed nine department heads. More than three years later, elDiario.es Comunitat Valenciana finds that only one, Health chief Marciano Gómez, still runs the same department he started with. José Antonio Rovira is also still in government, but he has since moved from Education to Finance, and Susana Camarero remains in Housing and Equality, though the outlet says she could leave if confirmed as a senator, with no date given.
The other six 2023 appointees are gone. Vicente Barrera, José Luis Aguirre and Elisa Núñez left in July 2024 when the Popular Party and Vox broke their alliance, and Mazón sacked Salomé Pradas and Nuria Montes on 20 November 2024, weeks after the dana floods that killed more than 200 people, over Pradas's handling of emergency alerts. Mazón resigned in early November 2025, and Juanfran Pérez Llorca took over on 2 December 2025. His appointee Elena Albalat then quit Social Services between 26 and 29 October 2026 to run for Congress in Castellón; with no replacement named, Justice minister Núria Martínez absorbed the role, cutting the Consell from eleven departments to ten.
What this changes for you: Social Services queries (benefits, dependency, family paperwork) now run through Núria Martínez's merged Justice and Social Services department rather than a dedicated minister. Health has stayed with the same minister since July 2023, Marciano Gómez, more continuity than anywhere else in the Consell. And keep an eye on Housing and Equality: elDiario.es says Camarero could be next to go if she becomes a senator, though that has no confirmed date.

Transport & traffic
- Ryanair adds Valencia route to Madeira, cuts six others for 2027. Ryanair will open a new direct route between Valencia and Madeira's Cristiano Ronaldo Airport, even as it scraps six other direct connections from Valencia in its 2027 schedule, according to Valencia Secreta. The new Madeira link comes on top of Ryanair's recently restored direct service to New York and new routes to Brasov and Chisinau, so travellers from Valencia keep gaining long-haul and niche European options even as the airline trims half a dozen other direct connections next year, a reminder to check your usual route is still flying before booking 2027 trips.
- Two high-speed trains collide near Toledo, services cancelled. A Renfe high-speed train and an Iryo high-speed train, according to Valencia Secreta, collided this morning near Urda station in Toledo, triggering a rescue operation and the cancellation of high-speed services. Rescue teams are still working the scene, and the cancellations are already rippling into other high-speed connections that run through Toledo, so anyone with a high-speed trip booked today, including journeys that pass through Madrid, should check with Renfe or Iryo before heading to the station.
