Today's essentials
Llíria opens its historic sites for free on 17 and 18 October. Llíria, a town north-west of Valencia, is opening its historic buildings to the public for free from Friday 16 to Sunday 18 October 2026 as the guest town (municipio invitado) of Open House Valencia, Valencia Bonita reports.
The weekend opens on Friday 16 October with a concert at the Iglesia de la Sang. Saturday and Sunday are given over to visits. Valencia Bonita says entry is free, but you need to register in the official OHV mobile app to get your 'Carnet OHV' pass. The app is new this year: you can use it to browse the programme, make bookings and follow a guided route through each building.
These are the sites confirmed so far. Ca la Vila, the town hall, is at plaza Mayor 1. The Museo Arqueológico de Llíria (MALL) is at plaza del Trinquet Vell 10, and the Iglesia de la Sang is at calle Major Antiga 1. You can also visit the Mausoleos Romanos (calle de Sant Vicent Ferrer 19), the Forn de la Vila, an old town bakery (calle de la Santíssima Sang 8), the Baños Árabes (calle d'Andoval 6), the Termas de Mura Roman baths (calle Peatonal 2, 4), Ca Porcar (avenida dels Furs 11) and the Monasterio de Sant Miquel de Llíria, which sits on the hill known as the tossal de Sant Miquel. The list is probably not complete, because other venues have been mentioned without full details.
Timing matters. On Saturday 17 October, the sites are open from 10:30 to 14:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00. The Forn de la Vila and the Baños Árabes open only in the afternoon slot. On Sunday 18 October, everything closes at 14:00, after a single morning session from 10:30. The guided tours that needed booking, and extras such as the Open Walks and the Esmorzaret (a traditional mid-morning snack), were already full when Valencia Bonita published its piece on 12 October. If you just turn up, you will be visiting at your own pace.
Llíria is one of four guest towns this year, along with Xàtiva, Cocentaina and Manises, El Periòdic reports. The festival's director, Sara Portela, told the same outlet that the event has grown 'exponentially'. For comparison, Xàtiva, last year's guest town, issued 2,269 passes and logged more than 5,400 visits in 2025.
What this means for you: Llíria is the end of the line on Metrovalencia line 2, so you can get there from the city without a car. Install the OHV app this week, register before Saturday and plan the Arab baths and the old bakery for the afternoon. If you enjoy the weekend, the main festival follows from 23 to 25 October, with 76 buildings open for free across Valencia city, according to Qué! and El Periòdic.
Weather today
Grey but dry, 26 degrees in Valencia. Valencia will stay dry under cloudy skies on Tuesday 13 October 2026, with lows of 17 and highs of 26 degrees, according to Open-Meteo.
There is a 0% chance of rain in the city, and the wind should not exceed 13 km/h. A light layer is enough for the morning, and you can leave the umbrella at home. Inland, Ayora is cooler at dawn (12 degrees) but warms to 28 degrees, with gusts of up to 17 km/h. On the southern coast, Cullera wakes up in fog with a 3% chance of rain and ranges between 18 and 25 degrees, so drive carefully early on.
Transport & traffic
- Three-kilometre tailback on the Pista de Silla. Hortanoticias reports that an accident on the Pista de Silla near Sedaví caused three kilometres of queues on Valencia's southern approach during the return traffic after the Día de la Hispanidad holiday on Monday 12 October. Hortanoticias counts this crash among the three main traffic incidents across the l'Horta metropolitan area that day. The Pista de Silla is the main route into the city from the south, so at the end of a long weekend, one collision is enough to slow everyone coming back from the Ribera or the Alicante side. Next bank holiday, check the traffic before you set off, or leave earlier.
- Metrovalencia passes 8.3 million passengers. Metrovalencia carried 8,329,146 passengers in September 2026, up 15.10%, according to La Voz de Alzira. That is a sharp rise for a month when students and commuters are back. In practice, it means fuller trains at peak times, especially on the lines to the university and the business districts. If you can shift your journey by half an hour, you have a better chance of getting a seat.
What's changing for you
- Public health service sends 267 scans a day to private providers. In 2025, the Valencian regional government referred an average of 267 diagnostic imaging tests a day, such as MRI scans and ultrasounds, to private providers, according to elDiario.es Comunitat Valenciana. The total went from 94,610 tests in 2022 to 107,933, then 107,800, and 97,431 in 2025. The socialist opposition (PSPV) criticises the rise in outsourced ultrasounds. If you are in the public system with a SIP card and your scan is booked at a private clinic, this is the arrangement behind it: check the address on your appointment, because it may not be your usual hospital.
