Today's essentials (5 key points)

  • Open-Meteo forecasts storms over Valencia on Friday 2 October, with a 100% chance of rain and temperatures between 21 and 23 degrees.
  • During the red rain alert, towns around Valencia put up barriers and suspended school activities, and Aldaia and Torrent closed their parks and asked residents to move to upper floors.
  • The EMT, Valencia's municipal bus company, will have a budget of 266 million euros for 2027 and will keep ticket prices unchanged.
  • The Diputació de València has approved seven municipal projects in l'Horta, worth about 1.8 million euros, through its Pla Obert programme.
  • CaixaForum Valencia opens an exhibition of 75 Rembrandt prints from the British Museum on 2 October 2026, and it runs until 7 February 2027.

Today's essentials

Metrovalencia restores normal timetable from 12:00 today. Metrovalencia metro and tram services go back to their usual timetable from 12:00 on Friday 2 October 2026, now that the red rain alert has ended, Última Hora reports, so you can plan the afternoon commute as normal.

The same outlet adds that the usual night service will also run this Friday. That matters for anyone who needs to travel late after two days of disruption, whether you work evening shifts or are heading home from the centre after dinner.

Valencia Plaza fills in the background. The network is run by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV), and both the cuts and the return to normal were decided by the FGV Safety Commission under its internal procedure for adverse weather. Late on the afternoon of Thursday 1 October, according to the same newspaper, Metrovalencia had partly reduced its service to roughly a Saturday level, while still carrying essential workers. None of the sources consulted say which metro or tram lines were affected.

The trigger was serious. El Debate reports that the AEMET, Spain's state weather agency, issued a red rain alert for the provinces of Valencia and Castellón from 18:00 on Thursday 1 October. It warned that rain could top 90 l/m2 in one hour and reach 150 to 200 l/m2 in six hours in some areas, with thunderstorms and hail. The alert covered the northern and southern coasts of both provinces and the northern interior of Castellón. On the Castellón coast, El Debate says, it was due to last until 12:00 on Friday.

The episode is not quite over. Última Hora points out that an orange alert remains in force after the red one was lifted, and the authorities are still asking people to avoid non-essential journeys and to follow official channels. No end time for the orange alert had been given at the time of writing.

What this means for you: if you rely on the metro or tram, normal frequencies return from midday on Friday 2 October, with the night service running too. Before setting off, check FGV's official channels for any changes on your line, and with the orange alert still active, think twice about journeys you don't need to make. If you're travelling towards the Castellón coast, keep a closer eye on conditions there.

Weather today

Storms all day, mild temperatures. Valencia city can expect storms on Friday 2 October, with a 100% chance of rain, lows of 21 and highs of 23 degrees, and winds of up to 12 km/h, according to Open-Meteo.

Further inland, Ayora will be slightly cooler, between 18 and 22 degrees, also with storms and certain rain, and the wind could reach 21 km/h, so a jacket is a good idea there. On the southern coast, Xeraco matches the city at 21 to 23 degrees with storms forecast and only light wind, up to 10 km/h. Wherever you are, a proper waterproof is more useful than an umbrella, and it makes sense to plan outings around short breaks in the rain rather than expecting a dry spell.

Transport & traffic

  • EMT bus fares frozen for 2027. As reported by Valencia Plaza and Valencia Extra, Valencia's municipal bus company, the EMT, will have a budget of 266 million euros in 2027 and will keep ticket prices where they are. For anyone who gets around the city by bus, this means next year's running costs are covered without the ticket price going up. It is useful certainty if you're working out a monthly transport budget or choosing between the bus, the metro and cycling for your daily commute.

What's changing for you

  • 1.8 million euros for seven projects in l'Horta. The Diputació de València has approved seven municipal projects in the l'Horta area, worth about 1.8 million euros under its Pla Obert programme, according to Hortanoticias. The projects were put forward by five town councils in the comarca. If you live in a town in l'Horta, check your town hall's website or social media to see whether your municipality is one of them and what work is planned, so you can expect possible roadworks or new facilities near you.
