Today's essentials (5 key points)

  • The Generalitat has announced 60 million euros in rental aid, plus purchase guarantees for buyers up to the age of 50 and insurance for landlords.
  • Valencia city will stay overcast on Monday 28 September, with temperatures between 21 and 27 degrees and a 33% chance of rain, according to Open-Meteo.
  • Heavy rain warnings have been announced for inland parts of Valencia and Castellón provinces, so drivers heading into the mountains should check AEMET before setting off.
  • Valencia's Mercado Central was evacuated because of a fire in its basement, and six fire units attended the scene.
  • The new Museu de la Mar in Cabanyal-Canyamelar is offering free guided tours every Saturday in October.

Today's essentials

Sagunto packs 40+ events into autumn, from jazz to kids' circus. Sagunto's autumn cultural season runs from September to December 2026 and includes more than 40 events, among them the second Festival Factory Jazz (10 to 13 December) and a Christmas festival for young children (28 to 30 December).

According to Valencia Extra, the programme was put together by the Concejalía de Cultura of the Ayuntamiento de Sagunto. It includes 15 concerts, 10 theatre performances, 9 exhibitions and 4 talks. Ana María Quesada, the town's culture councillor, summed up the idea behind it: 'Una ciudad no se construye solo con infraestructuras, sino que se construye con las historias que cuenta', which roughly means that a city is built on the stories it tells as well as on its infrastructure.

The jazz festival is spread across three venues in the town. Dixie Project Show opens it on 10 December at the Nave de Efectos y Recambios, a building left over from Puerto de Sagunto's steelworks past. Rafa M. Guillem & The Jazz Walkers play the Casa Municipal de Cultura on 11 December, and Mediterranean Jazz (Jazz i més Band) closes the festival on 13 December at the Centro Cultural Mario Monreal. The Casal Jove de Puerto de Sagunto is also listed among the season's venues. This is only the festival's second year: the first, held in late November 2025, featured Perico Sambeat and Andrea Motis.

You don't have to wait until December. Two local bands, Unión Musical Porteña and Sociedad Musical Lira Saguntina, play Music Week concerts on 3 and 4 October. Máximo Pradera gives a talk called 'Memoria de un nieto confuso' on 7 October, and the book series 'Diàleg de Llibres' follows on 14 October. Santa Cecilia concerts are scheduled for 20, 21 and 28 November, with Christmas concerts on 19 and 20 December. The Christmas festival for children offers puppets from Horta Teatre on 28 December, circus from La Troupe Malabó on 29 December and more puppets from Festuc Teatre on 30 December. The venue for each of these children's shows has not been confirmed yet.

What this means for you: Sagunto is an easy trip from Valencia on the Cercanías C6 line or a regional train, so a weeknight concert is realistic without a car. The first dates to put in your calendar are 3 and 4 October. Jazz tickets are sold through Servientradas, but no source has published prices yet, so check the platform before you plan the evening. If you have children, keep 28 to 30 December free for the Christmas shows.

Weather today

Grey skies over Valencia, storms likely inland. Valencia city will be overcast on Monday 28 September 2026, with a low of 21 and a high of 27 degrees, a 33% chance of rain and winds of up to 12 km/h, according to Open-Meteo.

Inland it is a different story. Bunyol can expect storms, with a 70% chance of rain, temperatures between 19 and 26 degrees and gusts of up to 13 km/h. On the southern coast, Cullera starts the day in fog, with temperatures between 22 and 26 degrees and the same 33% chance of rain as the city. Light layers will do in town, but take an umbrella if you are heading towards the hills in the afternoon.

Transport & traffic

  • Heavy rain warnings inland: check before you drive. Heavy rain warnings have been announced for the interior of Valencia and Castellón provinces, Valencia Secreta reports, only days after summer temperatures. This matters most if you drive into the mountains or take routes that cross the interior of either province this evening or overnight. Check the official AEMET warning level and any road updates before you set off, and allow extra time on inland roads.
  • All Saints: extra EMT buses and special cemetery hours. For All Saints' Day on 1 November, Valencia will reinforce some EMT bus lines and apply special opening hours at its cemeteries, according to a guide from Valencia Secreta. If you plan to visit a cemetery or take flowers, the reinforced routes should make getting there easier than driving, since parking around the cemeteries is usually scarce on that date. Check the EMT website shortly before 1 November to see which lines are affected and when the extra buses will run.

What's changing for you

  • New housing aid: purchase guarantees up to age 50. The Generalitat has announced purchase guarantees for home buyers up to the age of 50, a new insurance scheme for landlords and 60 million euros in rental aid, Valencia Extra reports. If you rent, the rental aid envelope is the part to watch, and if you are saving for a deposit and are under 50, the purchase guarantees could lower the amount you need upfront. New subsidies for renovation and accessibility work will also be available to homeowners. Keep an eye on the Generalitat's housing portal for the application periods, and prepare your empadronamiento (town hall registration) and income documents now.
  • VOX pushes 'national priority' into the regional budget. José María Llanos, spokesperson for VOX in the regional parliament, says the budget law includes a 'national priority' clause for the first time, according to Valencia News. For foreign residents, the key question is how the 'national priority' clause will be applied to public aid, and the report does not explain this. If you are thinking of applying for housing support, read the eligibility criteria carefully when the calls for applications are published.

Local news to know

  • Mercado Central evacuated after basement fire. Valencia's Mercado Central was evacuated after a fire broke out in its basement, and according to Libertad Digital the evacuation plan cleared the building in under five minutes, with six fire units attending.
  • PSPV calls Pérez Llorca an 'interim' president. The PSPV socialists have called regional president Pérez Llorca 'interim' and asked why he should be good enough for Valencians if he is not good enough for his own party's national leadership, Valencia Plaza reports.
  • Black holes arrive at the Hemisfèric. According to Valencia Bonita, the Hemisfèric at the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències is showing a new film about black holes this autumn and keeping its dinosaur, astronomy and nature programmes.
  • Free Saturday tours at the new Museu de la Mar. The recently opened Museu de la Mar, in the historic Casa dels Bous in Cabanyal-Canyamelar, is running free guided tours every Saturday in October, Valencia Bonita reports.
