Run a bar in Valencia? Free hygiene training on 24 September. If you run, manage or dream of opening a food business in Valencia, mark 24 September: the Conselleria de Sanidad and the region's hospitality employers are giving a free, online-only training session (9am to 11am) to walk restaurant and bar professionals through a brand-new food-safety guide.

Valencia Extra reports that registration is free and handled through an online form, with no travel needed since the whole session runs remotely. It is aimed at professionals who have to keep the kitchen legal every single day, and it comes with a written reference you can keep using long after the two hours are up.

That reference has an official name: the Guía de Prácticas Correctas de Higiene en el Sector de la Restauración. According to the Federación Empresarial de Hostelería de Valencia, it was drawn up by Conhostur alongside working professionals and then reviewed and endorsed by the Dirección General de Salud Pública, which describes it as a practical, rigorous tool adapted to the sector's real needs.

The purpose is concrete: help venues set up, apply and maintain the self-monitoring systems required by law, built on the APPCC principles (hazard analysis and critical control points, known internationally as HACCP). Castellón Información notes the guide covers any place that prepares or serves food, from restaurants, bars, cafeterias and pubs to takeaway shops, mobile stalls and food trucks. You can download it for free from the websites of four bodies: Conhostur, the Federación Empresarial de Hostelería de Valencia, the Asociación Provincial de Empresarios de Hostelería de Alicante (Apeha) and the Asociación de Hostelería y Turismo de Castellón (Ashotur).

Conhostur, the confederation behind the guide, says it represents around 34,000 hospitality and tourism businesses across the Valencian Community, which gives a sense of how many kitchens this is meant to reach, including the many bars and restaurants run by expats.
