Today's essentials (5 key points)

  • The free Circ Voramar festival takes over Valencia's seafront neighbourhoods with 25 circus shows from 28 August to 6 September.
  • Open-Meteo forecasts an overcast Friday in Valencia city, from 24 to 31 degrees with almost no rain.
  • Metrovalencia reopens the Alameda-Marítim section on Monday after track and infrastructure works, according to Valencia Plaza.
  • Iberdrola has scheduled power cuts between 29 August and 4 September in towns including Borriol, Castellón de la Plana and Almassora, per Noticias CV.
  • Firefighters declared the El Saler forest fire stabilised after it burned 37 hectares with no material damage.

Today's essentials

Circ Voramar: 25 free circus shows land in El Cabanyal. The Circ Voramar festival brings 25 free circus performances to El Cabanyal and La Marina from 28 August to 6 September, with no tickets and no numbered seats: you just show up.

According to valenciabonita.es and valenciaextra.com, this is the 11th edition of a festival born in the neighbourhood back in October 2015. It runs across two weekends, 28 to 30 August and 4 to 6 September, with 25 shows picked from 214 applications, organised by Apec-Baraka Circ alongside Valencia City Council and the Junta de Distrito de Marítim. Access is free until each space fills up, so there is no box office to worry about.

The action spreads across the seafront: the Tinglado 2 at La Marina de València, the Plaza del Mercado del Cabanyal (the Cabanyal market square), and two cultural centres in the Poblats Marítims district, the Escorxador and Reina 121. The organisers also promise a few unannounced surprise spaces, so it is worth wandering between venues rather than fixing on one spot.

There is more than watching involved. On Saturday 29 August the festival adds 7 free workshops covering acrobatics, children's circus, aerial techniques, juggling and jam sessions, valenciabonita.es notes. The programme leans on acrobatics, juggling, balancing, clown and physical theatre, with performers from the Valencian Community, Catalonia, Madrid, Aragon, Canada, Colombia and Argentina. Across its ten previous editions the event claims more than 100,000 spectators, per valenciaextra.com.

For anyone who might struggle to attend, accessible places are held for groups at risk of social exclusion, bookable by email at info@circvoramar.com according to valenciabonita.es.

What this means for you: this is one of the easiest free plans in the city right now, walkable straight from the Cabanyal and Malva-rosa beaches, with nothing to book in advance. Because seating is first come, first served and unnumbered, arrive early if a show sounds popular. And if you miss the opening weekend, the whole thing runs again from 4 to 6 September.

Weather today

Grey but dry Friday, up to 31 degrees in the city. Open-Meteo expects an overcast day in Valencia city, with lows around 24 degrees, highs near 31, a 3% chance of rain and wind up to 15 km/h.

In the city the sky stays grey but dry, so light clothing is plenty and there is little reason to carry an umbrella. Inland around Chelva it runs slightly cooler, 19 to 30 degrees with wind up to 17 km/h, while the southern coast at Oliva is milder and steadier, 24 to 28 degrees with a 5% rain chance and wind up to 13 km/h, comfortable for a late beach afternoon.

Transport & traffic

  • Metrovalencia reopens Alameda-Marítim on Monday. Metrovalencia will restore circulation on the Alameda-Marítim section on Monday after finishing track and infrastructure works, according to Valencia Plaza. For anyone living in or heading to the port and beach neighbourhoods, this brings back the normal run toward Marítim from Monday and ends the disruption tied to the closure. Check your line's first departures as service returns to its usual pattern.
  • Sedaví bans heavy trucks on its main avenue. Hortanoticias reports that Sedaví is banning trucks over 12 tonnes from the avenida País Valenciano and expanding its control cameras. The measure targets heavy traffic cutting through the town centre in l'Horta Sud, so drivers of large vehicles will need alternative routes while additional cameras enforce the limit. For residents on the avenue, it should translate into quieter and safer streets.

What's changing for you

  • Ageing in the rural interior, a public care-home push. A new public care home in Villahermosa del Río, Valencia Extra reports, is being held up as proof that ageing in the interior need not mean falling behind, after a visit by regional minister Albalat. The residencia San Antonio Abad case is part of a regional drive for equal elderly-care services in rural Valencian municipalities. If you have older relatives inland, it signals that public places closer to home may become easier to find, though no new application process was announced with the visit.
  • Scheduled power cuts, 29 August to 4 September. According to Noticias CV, Iberdrola has scheduled power cuts from 29 August to 4 September in several Valencian municipalities, including Borriol, Castellón de la Plana and Almassora. If you live in one of the affected towns, plan around it: charge your devices, back up anything time-sensitive and check Iberdrola's notice for the exact streets and hours before the cut reaches your address.
