The 5 key points

  • Up to 35 degrees inland, heat and mist in Valencia
  • New air route this summer from Valencia airport
  • Last day to sign up for the Batalla de Flores draw
  • The dana judge reignites the debate over alerts
  • Requena wines at L'Umbracle on Thursday, free festivals in August

Today's essentials

New air route this summer 2026 at Valencia airport: more seats to a top destination. Valencia airport (Manises) welcomes a new air route for summer 2026, with more seats to a high-demand destination, according to Valencia Extra.

Valencia Extra reports that an airline operating at Manises is expanding its summer schedule: a brand-new route is being added this summer and the number of seats is increasing to one of travellers' favourite destinations departing from Valencia.

For French residents living in Valencia, more flights and seats out of Manises means more flexibility to organise a round trip to France or a connection at the height of the summer season, a period when demand is strong and planes fill up fast.

As for getting there, the airport is in Manises, to the west of the city. The metro connects it directly to the centre (Aeroport stop), an option that avoids the car and parking on travel days. On high-demand summer routes, the best fares go quickly, so it is better to book early.

Valencia Extra does not yet specify all the frequencies. For the exact airline, flight days and fares, the safest bet is to check directly with Valencia airport and the airlines before booking.

Today's weather

Intense heat and a misty morning over Valencia. The city of Valencia expects today, Monday 20 July, a low of 25 degrees and a high of 32 degrees, with fog in the morning, a low chance of rain (8%) and a light wind up to 12 km/h, according to Open-Meteo.

Inland in the province, around Requena, the heat climbs higher: from 22 to 35 degrees under an overcast sky, with a higher chance of rain (23%) and a light wind up to 10 km/h. On the southern coast, near Xeraco, the air stays heavier but slightly cooler, from 26 to 31 degrees, overcast sky, almost no rain (3%) and wind up to 13 km/h.

A day rated as intense heat with a peak of 35 degrees inland: keep water on you, limit exertion and full sun during the hottest hours, and favour the morning or the end of the day for outings. In the city, the morning mist usually clears during the day.

Transport and traffic

  • Metro and dana: the FGV manager defends himself before the judge. The manager of the Valencia Metro, Alfonso Novo, told the judge leading the investigation into the dana that Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) had not received any concrete instruction from the Emergencias services, but only recommendations sent out broadly to public bodies, according to elDiario.es. For users of the Valencia metro, this testimony touches a sensitive point: who gives the order to stop or evacuate an underground network when a flood threatens. The question of the alert chain, at the heart of the investigation into the disaster, will weigh on how public transport is prepared during the next episodes of intense rain.
  • Total eclipse on 12 August: finding a good spot near Valencia. A total solar eclipse will be visible on 12 August 2026 from the Valencia region, but very low on the horizon (about 4 degrees towards the west-northwest), which makes the choice of viewing spot crucial, according to discussions on Reddit r/valencia. In practice, such a low altitude requires a completely clear horizon to the west-northwest, with no buildings or terrain blocking the setting sun: the high points reachable by metro or bike around the city will be much sought after that day. It is better to scout your spot in advance and allow plenty of margin, as turnout will be heavy for this rare astronomical event.

What changes for you

  • Batalla de Flores: last day to try for a palco. You have until tonight, Monday 20 July at 11.59pm, to sign up for the draw for the palcos (the stands) of the Batalla de Flores, according to Valencia Secreta. Registration has been open since 17 July with Valencia city hall: if you want a seat in the stands to watch this flower battle, a must-see of the late Valencian summer, sign up before tonight's cut-off, because after that it will be too late for this draw. The details of the terms and the price should be checked directly on the city hall's official channel.
  • 4,000 jobs in sight with a mega housing factory in Valencia. Cecotec and inHAUS plan to build in Valencia the largest industrialised construction factory in Europe, a 100 million euro project backed by the Generalitat and announced with 4,000 jobs at stake, according to Valencia Extra. For you living here, two signals to follow: on jobs, such a project hints at thousands of positions in industry and construction around Valencia in the years to come; on housing, industrialised construction (modules made in a factory then assembled on site) aims to produce homes faster. Nothing has been built yet, but it is a local story to keep an eye on if you are looking for a job or a future home.

Local news to know

  • Residence and dana: the courts rein in the State. The TSJ (High Court) of the Valencian Community has overturned the refusal of a dana-related temporary residence application for a migrant, criticising the Government Delegation for failing to assess the police report that presented him as a threat to public order, according to elDiario.es.
  • Dana: the mayor reportedly received no alert notice. According to the judge leading the investigation into the dana, the mayor of Valencia María José Catalá received no notice intended to alert the population, elDiario.es reports, with the magistrate also declining to hear councillor Juan Carlos Caballero as a witness.
  • Schools: materials to train pupils for emergencies. The Valencian Generalitat is distributing new teaching materials intended to train pupils to respond in an emergency, so they always know how to act, Valencia Plaza reports.

Tonight and tomorrow in Valencia

  • Onda turns into a medieval city in August. In August, the town of Onda (Castellón) turns its historic centre into a large medieval village, with a market, tournaments, horseback jousting and parades, as part of its summer programme, according to Valencia Bonita.
  • Requena wines at L'Umbracle on Thursday 23 July. On Thursday 23 July 2026, more than 40 bodegas and producers bring together the wines of Requena at L'Umbracle of the City of Arts and Sciences for 'La gran fiesta del verano', according to Valencia Bonita. Head to L'Umbracle (Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències) on Thursday 23 July to taste the local production.
  • Xàtiva: five nights of free music with Al Ras. The Al Ras Festival returns to Xàtiva for five nights of celebration and free music during the Feria de Agosto, Valencia Bonita reports. Five free evenings in Xàtiva during the Feria de Agosto, exact programme to be confirmed.
