Where to play basketball in Valencia (and see Valencia Basket)

· La Rédaction de TDV
Where to play basketball in Valencia: free Turia hoops, clubs, L'Alqueria del Basket for kids, and Valencia Basket at the Roig Arena.
Where to play basketball in Valencia (and see Valencia Basket)

Valencia is a real basketball city: Valencia Basket, with men's AND women's teams at Europe's top level, has played since autumn 2025 in the brand-new Roig Arena, and youth development has, in L'Alqueria del Basket, one of the largest complexes in Europe, 9 indoor and 4 outdoor courts. In between: free hoops in the Turia, sports centres to rent and federated neighbourhood clubs. Here is the guide, whether you want to play, sign up your kids or just cheer from the stands. See also our guides to football and padel.

Where to see top basketball?

At the Roig Arena, Valencia Basket's new home, opened in autumn 2025 (first ACB league game on 5 October 2025, against Barça, no less). The men's team plays the Liga Endesa and the EuroLeague under Pedro Martínez, the women's team plays the Liga Femenina Endesa and the EuroLeague Women with Rubén Burgos: two tickets to the very top level, in an arena built for the show. Tickets are on the club's official site, and a family game is one of expat kids' favourite outings: loud, colourful, good-natured, and you leave knowing three chants in Valencian.

Where to play among adults?

For an impromptu pick-up game, the free hoops in the Jardín del Turia do the job: there is always a crowd at the end of the day, and you will be worked into the next five without being asked for your CV. For a proper slot with friends, rent a court at a municipal sports centre through the FDM, at the public rate. And for regular competition, senior clubs affiliated with the Valencian federation (FBCV) recruit in the off-season, from recreational to regional leagues: write to your neighbourhood club, trials are in September.

Where to enrol your child in basketball?

Short answer: at L'Alqueria del Basket for the most complete structure, at a neighbourhood FBCV club for classic team life, or at the municipal sports schools to start gently. L'Alqueria, Valencia Basket's development centre (Bomber Ramon Duart street, next to the City of Arts), runs its Academy over the school year, September to June, and organises very popular holiday schools: the Christmas or summer school costs 185 euros, lunch, insurance and supervision included. The FDM municipal schools include basketball in their 4-18 offer, spring enrolment. And nearly every district has its federated club: the FBCV directory helps you find the nearest.

How much does it cost?

Open play costs nothing (Turia) or a few euros a head (shared municipal rental). A season at a neighbourhood club for a child usually runs between 200 and 450 euros depending on the club and training volume, kit on top. Municipal schools remain the gentlest way to try, and L'Alqueria's holiday schools (185 euros a week, lunch included) an excellent gateway before committing for the year. In the stands, ticket prices vary a lot by fixture: an early-season league game is very affordable, a EuroLeague night should be booked early.

Frequently asked questions

At what age can a child start?
From 4 or 5 in babybasket, where they mostly learn to dribble, run and have fun. Federated age-group leagues start later, around 8.

Can my daughter dream big?
Here, yes: Valencia Basket's women's team plays the EuroLeague Women, and the girls' pathway is structured from babybasket to the top, at L'Alqueria and in the clubs. The role models are right there, in person, every weekend.

A game at the Roig Arena with young children, good idea?
Very good: the arena is new, accessible, the atmosphere family-friendly, and it lasts about two hours. Take seats a little higher for the overview, and avoid the big European games for a first time.

Do you need to speak Spanish to enrol your child?
No, enrolment is online or by email with simple vocabulary, and coaches are used to foreign families. Basketball does the rest.
